Under the guidance of H.E Minister Dith Tina of the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery (MAFF), Khmer Foods Group (KFG) has entered into a landmark contract farming agreement with local farmers’ cooperatives to cultivate three premium rice paddy varieties: SKO, SRO, and OM5451. This strategic partnership aims to enhance the production of high-quality rice to meet both domestic and international demand while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.
By focusing on these specific varieties, known for their superior grain quality and market appeal, KFG seeks to strengthen Cambodia’s position in the global rice market. The agreement ensures that farmers adhere to standardized cultivation methods to produce consistent, high-purity rice that aligns with KFG’s quality benchmarks and export requirements.
Under the terms of the agreement, KFG commits to providing farmers with high-purity seeds to guarantee the genetic integrity and quality of the SKO, SRO, and OM5451 varieties. Additionally, KFG, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fishery (MAFF) will offer technical assistance to promote sustainable farming practices, including guidance on soil management, water conservation, and eco-friendly cultivation techniques.
To secure farmers’ livelihoods, KFG guarantees the purchase of the harvested paddy at a premium price above prevailing market rates, offering economic stability and incentivizing adherence to quality standards. This support empowers farmers to invest in their operations while contributing to the broader goal of sustainable agriculture.
In return, the farmers’ cooperatives agree to cultivate the specified rice varieties using the high-purity seeds provided by KFG and to follow strict guidelines on chemical and pesticide usage to minimize residue and ensure compliance with food safety standards. By adhering to these protocols, farmers help maintain the integrity of the rice, making it suitable for premium markets, including organic and export segments.
This commitment to responsible farming practices not only enhances the quality of the rice but also aligns with global consumer demand for environmentally conscious and safe food products, fostering trust in Cambodian rice on the international stage.
Beyond economic benefits, the partnership with KFG brings significant socio-economic, welfare, and educational advantages to the farming communities. Farmers gain access to training programs that enhance their agricultural knowledge, covering modern techniques, pest management, and sustainable practices.
KFG’s initiatives also include community welfare programs, such as improved access to healthcare, education, and infrastructure, which uplift the quality of life for farmers and their families. By fostering a holistic ecosystem of support, KFG empowers farmers to thrive economically and socially, ensuring the long-term sustainability of Cambodia’s rice industry while strengthening rural communities.
